World Usability Day, Detroit Returns for the Fourth Year

World Usability Day: make life easier

We’re excited to partner with Michigan User Experience Professionals Association for the fourth World Usability Day, Detroit on November 9, 2017.

After a year hiatus, World Usability Day Detroit returns for an evening event in downtown Detroit with guest speaker, Elle Waters, director of strategy at Simply Accessible, Inc.

What is World Usability Day?

World Usability Day is an annual worldwide event, where people gather in their community to ensure that the products and services important to life are easier to access and simpler to use.

It’s celebrated on the second Thursday of November; this year marks the twelfth anniversary of World Usability Day.

No-one should have to suffer through products and services that get in their way. People should not be made to feel stupid by technology.

World Usability Day events focus on celebration and education:

  • Celebrating the successes in creating usable products and services
  • Educating the community about how usability affects our everyday life

World Usability Day, Detroit 2017

This year’s World Usability Day, Detroit 2017 event features Elle Waters, who will present Usable Usability: Inclusive Design for the Real World.

Many times, user research doesn’t account for the needs of people with disabilities. We know that the user experience is more than a series of transactions, but all too often, we limit our understanding of what it means to design for everyone.

How can we move beyond rules and checklists to think about people more holistically?

With hands-on demonstrations and stories from inclusive usability studies, Waters will share best practices and practical recommendations for considering a range of people’s abilities and needs in your design process.
